New Collection Guide for the Ron Sederoff Papers Now Available

Forest Biotechnology Group Materials, 1998-2000

The Special Collections Research Center is pleased to announce that the collection guide for the Ron Sederoff Papers (MC 00363) is now available online.

Ron (Ronald Ross) Sederoff is an emeritus faculty member at North Carolina State University. He previously served as Distinguished University Professor and Edwin F. Conger Professor of Forestry and Environmental Resources and Associate Member of the Department of Genetics and the Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry. As a forestry professor and molecular geneticist, his research interests include the genetics and genomics of forest trees, genetic regulation of lignin biosynthesis, molecular mechanisms in the formation of the plant cell wall, gene expression in differentiating wood, and disease resistance in forest trees.

Sederoff is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the International Academy of Wood Science, and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was co-founder and co-director of NC State University's Forest Biotechnology Group, whose researchers have studied the genetic basis for tree traits such as disease resistance, growth, and quality. In 2017, the King of Sweden awarded Sederoff the Marcus Wallenberg Prize, a prestigious international award for scientific achievements in forestry. The selection committee honored Sederoff for “breakthroughs in developing methods for gene discovery in conifer species and exploiting new breeding technologies for improved properties.”
